Kim made the diaper cake. It was also part of one of the games she planned. We had to guess how many diapers. My non mom answer was 42 - there are 160. The moms were all close and non moms all undershot it.
The food. Yum!!

Furniture is in the room!!
It's beginning to look like a baby's room!! We have put together the crib and arranged the furniture. Still have a few things to do, but this is the general idea. All of this beautiful furniture was given to us from some very generous friends. Along with almost everything else we have for the baby.
Still need curtains. No rush though. It will happen eventually.
This dresser was given to us by my dear friend Gretchen. It was hers when she was a little girl. I thought it was fitting to let it live on as our little guy's childhood dresser too. It is already full of clothes from family and friends!! We're so lucky to have wonderful generous people in our lives!

Painting the Baby's Room
We had a nice distraction this weekend with the painting project. For those of you that don't know Matt was laid off from his job last week. He has been working hard getting his resume out there and I'm positive with his references and resume that he will land a great job. But it's still hard to get through the day without a few tears of fear.
Matt makes fun of me that the colors I like are 'shades of beige' which is very apparent in the colors I've picked throughout the house! The nursery has 3 cream walls and one light brown wall. And the colors I've picked to decorate are chocolate brown, beige and a light sage green. I'm a little afraid of color and patterns. Oh well. Here are some pics from painting.
Our next door neighbor helped us all day. She was such a BIG help!!

Dallas Shower
Here are pics from the shower last weekend. I enjoyed spending time with my family and friends. I was a big reminder that I don't go home enough. It was so nice to get to spend the whole day with everyone.
(Baby bump update: I'm 27 weeks)
Below is my friend Laurie, we've known each other since probably the 6th grade. We played soccer together as kids and again in high school.
My uncle Jeff and Aunt Susie. Aunt Susie made the most wonderful diaper cake below. She and my mom spoiled me rotten while I was home. It was wonderful to get to spend time together.

A very special family friend John. I grew up spending time with him and his wife Betty (in the picture after this).

Funny Story
Baby bump update. I'm 23 weeks.
Last night I was laying in bed getting to sleep with the usual set up - our cat Tubby curled up next to my belly purring away - he has a pretty loud motor boat. At the same time the baby started really moving around and kicking. It was the most movement I'd felt yet. He usually kicks a few times and is done - but last night he kicked and kicked. So much that Matt got a chance to feel movement for the first time.
I know they have those dolls with the heart beat for baby to sleep - but I wonder if our little guy would prefer something that purrs....

It's a Boy!
We found out today that our little one is a boy. It was a pretty exciting morning. And since I would have bet the ranch that it's a girl I have some work to do. Mainly just switching gears. The woman (not our Dr.) who did the sonogram said he was moving a lot! I'm guessing that is a warning of what's to come :)
Here are some sonogram pics. He is getting so big that I don't really need to explain much.
This is his little foot....

I feel a little wierd posting the picture that proves it's a boy.

Half Way There
I'm 20 weeks along, officially half way done! Within the last week I've started feeling little flutters - the baby's movement. It's pretty neat. We have an appointment on Tuesday to find out if it's a girl or boy. I can't wait to see the little one again and to stop having to call it 'it'.
We've been so fortunate to have generous friends. They have provided us with so many essentials - a crib, swing, car seat, stroller etc... So much stuff that we might almost be set! It's all piled in the nursery ready to be arranged.
I'll make sure to get the word out when we find out what we're having. So exciting!!

Going going gone!
The other night the gate to our fence went down with the wind. Well, today the rest of the fence joined in. The wind is so high today. It's actually scarry to be outside. While I was taking these pictures the dust in the air whipping around my head was in my eyes, stuck to my freshly chap sticked lips and in my teeth!
I've also had to chase down my front door mat today. I think if we get a dog we should name it Toto.

Our poor swamp cooler is naked too! The cover came off as well as two filters. Holy Crap the wind is stripping my poor home bare. I saw a roof shingle in my yard too.

We lost the side fence too. It happened later in the evening. I was really hoping it would just continue to lean and we could just repair it. But it gave in to the wind too. We share this one with our neighbor so at lease we'll only be paying for half of it!

The Shelves are Installed!
We've spent the past month nesting and purging old stuff we don't need to make room for the new addition. In the process we got rid of some really big book cases in exchange for Matt making some. He has been working on them for a while to get them just right. One of the pictures is close enough to see the beautiful trim he put on them. He installed them last night. I'm so happy about how they turned out!
(If you click on the picture it will get bigger to see the detail)
Pretty soon I will have a neat organized house, just in time for a baby to keep me too busy to clean it :)
