I saw something like this on Pinterest (via Etsy.com) and I thought I could replicate it. I think it turned out alright. It's a birthday present for a 6 year old girl named Penelope. I think she'll like it.
I was able to buy a pillow case and a picture frame from Goodwill. After I washed and ironed the pillowcase, Matt stapled the fabric onto the picture frame.
I tacked the buttons on with pins. The buttons were easier to sew on while they were held in place by the pins. I just went through and loosely sewed the buttons on - then went back through afterwards and really sewed them on.
Here's the back before I covered it with the back of the picture frame.
I hot glued the felt onto the back of the picture frame.
I hot glued the tar out of the back of this thing!! Some ribbon is glued around the edge and then the back is hot glued onto the exposed wood of the frame.
A little lace around the outside and it's complete. It took me 5 days to make. Besides a tired back from being hunched over it while working on it, it wasn't that hard to make!
